Travel through time at Worldwide Auctioneers’ Pacific Grove Auction
Worldwide Auctioneers’s Pacific Grove Auction not only takes you on a transcontinental journey around the world, but also on one that transports you through time, starting with the pre-War 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Berlinetta and 1940 BMW 328 Roadster. Both design marvels in their own right, the Alfa features coachwork by Touring and is one of only five built with the triple-carburettor ‘SS’ engine (est. 1.8–2.4m US dollars), while the BMW, also designed by Touring, features a recent restoration, which has seen it reunited with its believed original body, chassis, and engine (est. 1.5–2m US dollars). The journey then takes us to post-War, with two great examples from both sides of the Atlantic: a 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster and a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Sunray-DX Racing Car. The Porsche, known as the “Lieutenant’s Speedster,” has had only one owner from new, a US officer stationed in Germany, who had purchased the car directly from Porsche in Stuttgart (est. 375,000–475,000 US dollars), while the Corvette, an American icon, has been raced extensively around the States, even finishing 2nd in class at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona (est. 950,000–1.25m US dollars). This brings us to modern day with the 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo — a supercar racer that competed on behalf of Lamborghini Houston and finished on the podium with Rick Ware Racing (est. 300,000–500,000 US dollars).
