As far as automotive careers go, it’s fair to say Gordon Murray has had a decent run. After producing a string of World Championship-winning Grand Prix cars for the likes of Brabham and McLaren, in the early 1990s Murray convinced then-McLaren boss Ron Dennis to produce the marque's first-ever road car. The resulting machine certainly didn’t disappoint; featuring heart-stealing bodywork by Peter Stevens and a screaming 627 bhp BMW V12, the McLaren F1’s 240 mph top speed made it the world’s fastest car when it debuted, while it remains the last road-legal, series-produced sportscar to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright.
This 1994 example was the 14th of just 64 road-specification McLaren F1s ever built, and was delivered to new to the Brunei Royal Family in the combination of Titanium Yellow over black. Later exported back to the United Kingdom, it was owned for a period by ex-McLaren Cars director David Clark before being shipped to the United States. In 2006, it was bought by a new, long-term keeper, who sent it to Woking for a complete rebuild that saw it changed to the current specification of Ibis White with the desirable High-Downforce Kit, while the interior was also converted to LM-specification with a new race-style driver’s seat. Now showing just 13,711 miles, chassis 014 has also been signed by not one, but two legendary Formula One drivers: Michael Schumacher and Sir Lewis Hamilton. While Schumacher signed chassis 014 before its makeover, Hamilton's signature can still be seen on the left-hand-side luggage compartment!
31 years after the McLaren F1 above rolled out of Woking, this magnificent homage to the legendary three-seater hypercar was completed by Gordon Murray Automotive. This 2025 GMA T.50 is the 35th out of only 100 production T.50s and carries all the lessons and technological advancements from the last three decades, including one of the most hair-raising engines ever built: Cosworth’s 12,000 rpm, 661 horsepower 4.0-litre V12. Weighing in under 1,000 kilos, the T.50 somehow manages to pack in a Brabham BT46B-style fan setup that can both increase downforce and reduce drag depending on the scenario, while also negating the need for any spoilers that might disturb the T.50’s elegant silhouette.
Currently in pristine factory-fresh condition, this T.50 has barely been driven and shows a mere 217 kilometres on the odometer. Finished in the fabulous combination of Harrier grey paint with Gloss Carbon accents over a Charcoal Alcantara, Chromite Black, and Matrix Orange leather interior, this T.50 is undoubtedly one of the most desirable machines on four wheels to be created in the last decade. Like the F1 above, this T.50 will be heading to RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi auction on December 5th.
