Description

"The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was released to the public in October 1965. This new model was ten years in development and the new series was characterised by surprisingly modern features. Rolls-Royce broke new ground and broke away from many sacred design principles. Under the bonnet, the V8 engine that had been introduced in the Silver Cloud series was employed. In February 1977, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was introduced. Outwardly, the models were identifiable by bumpers with rubber inserts and edges made from polyurethane. The most notable mechanical changes were to the rack and pinion steering, there was also modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly. The car had been subjected to extensive wind tunnel testing, the result of which created a car with much better stability at high speed.Delivered new to Howells of Cardiff on 1st May 1978, this example comes with a full service history and includes £11,000 of bills since 2013. The car is offered complete with original service book showing 32 service stamps, many MOTs and the leather-bound folder full of receipts. The vendor has recently spent around £3,000 bringing the car up to daily driver standard and has recently conducted a 300 mile round trip without fault, reporting that the car comfortably sits at 70mph on the motorway.Works carried out in 2017 include rebuilding of rear drive shafts, attention to brakes and rear suspension and it was last serviced on 10th February 2017; some 1,800 miles ago. The speedometer was documented as replaced in 1987 at 13,194 miles with the current reading at 49,500. Total mileage for the car is some 62,694 miles, but this will increase a little as it is used daily and will be driven from our vendor’s house near Swansea to the auction.Having owned a Silver Shadow for a number of years, the vendor, an RREC member, describes the car as follows: “Apart from one small dent on the driver’s chrome sill strip, there are no dents or dings to the panels although the front and rear screens rubbers will need replacing at some stage. There are no warning lights at all, the radio and aerial work, the windows go up rapidly from all buttons although the air-con doesn’t work and a new compressor may be needed. The dashboard will need relacquering and should the new buyer care much for the boot, the boot carpets could be described as past their best.” In recent years the Shadow II has been known as the raffish choice of motorcar for the stylish lady or gentleman about town. Recent auction results show that eminently drivable luxury cars of this era are currently in vogue. The mileage and history file of this car will always carry a premium. Accompanied by two keys and an MOT valid until May 2019 with no advisories, this is a desirable Shadow II."
