The Model -When the Federal Government started putting restrictions on fuel consumption, horsepower and performance for passenger cars, those same rules exempted commercial vehicles. This had two major effects for the industry in the USA, a marked increase in the number of truck-based models such as mini-vans and SUV's, and a whole new market niche of performance pickups and related models. Taking full advantage of the situation, GMC's marketing and engineering people came up with the Sonoma based Syclone pickup released in the fall of 1990. Starting with the proven V6 engine, and utilizing the TD06-17C Turbocharger from Mitsubishi, coupled with a Garrett Air-Cooler, power was more than doubled and one of America's fastest production vehicles was a compact pickup. Fast, 0-to-60 in 4.6 seconds on average. Respected, comparisons were drawn between the Syclone and the Ferrari 348. Production was limited in 1991 to just 2,997 units and ask their owners, it is rare to find one for sale.

The Car - The miles on the odometer are real, and few. Kept in climate controlled storage from new and used only to keep it operational, this Syclone is probably one of the lowest mile examples available. Only available in black, the fit and finish of this particular truck is flawless and the interior looks just as it did when delivered to the new customer. All of the gauges are bright and clear, the seats and floor covering show no wear and the leather-wrapped steering wheel shows like it was brand new. As a 26-year old vehicle, this Syclone qualifies for judging and preservation awards with the AACA as well as a number of other collector organizations. The pickup bed on this black beauty might not be big enough to carry all of the awards and trophies it would be sure to win. Preserved for history, ready to be the cornerstone of a collection of performance vehicles from the 1990's, this is an opportunity that one should give deep consideration.
