The Model: During the early 1970’s, the American automobile industry was under new federal mandates to make vehicles safer to drive and cleaner for the environment. New standard were established for fuel economy and due to new formulas, a change in how horsepower was expressed. However, American drivers still loved their cars and one of their favorites was the Cutlass Supreme series from Oldsmobile. From the same family as the F85 and base Cutlass, the Supreme edition offered full carpeting, Strato bucket seats, special moldings, simulated wood trim, a special steering wheel and a number of other features. Under the hood, the official horsepower rating for the standard 350 “Rocket V8 was down from the previous year, but still packed a pretty good punch off the line. For 1972, the most popular Oldsmobile was the Cutlass Supreme Holiday Hardtop coupe with 105,087 being assembled.

The Car: 1972 would mark the final year of a traditional hardtop coupe for Oldsmobile, but what a Swan Song they made as shown by this beauty. This beauty is finished in Matador Red with a complimenting black vinyl bucket seat interior and black vinyl top. Under the hood the mighty Rocket V8 looks as it did when it left the line in Lansing, and still retains power steering and brakes, with discs up front. Riding on a set of color-keyed Super Sport wheels with proper whitewall tires, this car sits level and rides proud. Interior appointments include a factory AM/FM and 8track stereo system, air conditioning, the special 4spoke steering wheel and simulated wood graining throughout. Back in 1972, Oldsmobile was one of the top-selling brands and by inspecting this Cutlass Supreme Holiday Hardtop Coupe, it is easy to see why the boys from Lansing were proud of their work.
