The fourth round of the 2009 Britcar Championship was held on the notoriously challenging Spa-Francorchamps circuit on 26-27 June.

Within the Britcar series is the ‘Vantage GT4 Challenge’, open to all Aston Martin Vantage GT4s, including the Vantage N24. Leading the Challenge at the opening of the Spa meeting was Nicholas Mee Racing, which again qualified well – putting its V8 Vantage GT4 27th on the grid out of 48 starters, and ahead of the other two Aston Martin GT4 challengers.

Driver Karsten Le Blanc made a good start in typically wet conditions, but the 3-hour race was quickly interrupted by a two-car accident at Eau Rouge. This saw a 40-minute safety car period. Once the green flag was waved to re-start the racing, Le Blanc continued his strong pace before handing over to co-driver Christiean Van Lanschot during a rapid, incident-free pitstop. Van Lanschot continued in similar vein until a second safety car appearance – which left him with just 25 minutes of unrestricted racing time, running with wet tyres on a drying track.

However, a strong effort during the later stages saw Van Lanschot bring the car home 17th overall – and 1st in the Aston Martin Challenge by one lap.

Our team ran like clockwork, adapted well to the changing conditions and was rewarded with an excellent finish.

“I’m especially proud of our 100% finishing record after four rounds, as well as being thrilled to have further extended our lead in the Aston Martin GT4 / N24 Challenge.”



Nicholas Mee Racing will now regroup and prepare for the next round of the Championship, a four-hour race being held over the August Bank Holiday weekend at Snetterton circuit.
