This two-day auction comprises automobilia on 3rd December, followed by motorcycles and cars on 4th December: both at H&H’s regular venue of the Buxton Pavilion in Derbyshire.

With 86 cars consigned before the catalogue went to press, and further late entries being promised, the 4th December car sale is the northern auction house’s traditional bumper offering. For those not familiar with H&H, the cars this Cheshire-based company offers are by no means the typical fare of a regional auction house. The 4th December sale is no exception.

To pick a few highlights, there’s a 1964 AC Cobra 289 GT racer, estimated to fetch £180,000 – 220,000; the ex-Peter Harper 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Works which won its class on the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally (£32,000 – 38,000); a 1974 Surtees TS16 Formula 1 racer (£80,000 – 90,000) driven by both John Watson and Henri Pescarolo in 1975; and a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO (£140,000 – 160,000). Oh yes, and the ex-Nigel Mansell Lotus F1 car, chassis number 87/4, which is estimated at £280,000 – 320,000.

But for many, the star of the show will be the 1931 Bugatti Type 50 Regulation Le Mans Tourer. Built for Le Mans, chassis number 50143 has a continuous history from new and - we are told - all the car’s major components are original.
