London based Aston Martin specialist Nicholas Mee, together with support from Aston Martin 'Works Service' and Classic Driver, is not only organising a full hospitality package at September's inaugural Classic event with the legendary "Club Tertre Rouge", but also a spirited run down to Le Mans (for pre '74 cars) using the route favoured by many British Teams in the Fifties and Sixties.
The scene of epic duals between Ferrari and Ford, Jaguar and Aston Martin, Mercedes and Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti and Alfa Romeo; the endless list of the grandest marques are set to race against each other again during the inaugural Le Mans Classic.
"Club Tertre Rouge" has, since 1994, annually organised a three day party at Le Mans for the running of the ‘24 Hours du Mans’. Over the years guests have witnessed victories from McLaren, Audi, Porsche and Jaguar from their unique track side facilities. The exit speeds from Tertre Rouge, where the base is located, dictate the car’s maximum on the legendary Mulsanne straight. The ‘Garage du Circuit’, their base at Tertre Rouge, is steeped in history having been used up to the mid 70’s as a working garage by teams preparing cars and bikes prior to racing. Former guests at the Club have included Le Mans winners and veterans Carroll Shelby, Roy Salvadori, Derek Bell, Alain de Cadenet, as well as other well known team managers and manufacturer’s representatives.
Within walking distance of the ‘Village’ they are able to offer guests an experience, and ‘base camp’ facilities, not found anywhere else at Le Mans.
For the first time Club Tertre Rouge is offering a weekend package which starts with a ferry crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe followed by a spirited run down to Le Mans using the classic route via Rouen, Bernay, Gace and Alencon to Le Mans. Once arriving at Tertre Rouge cars will be lined up and displayed within secure grounds. Guests who have taken up the accommodation package will be transported by air conditioned minibuses. To ‘kick off’ the weekend they will be hosting a champagne ‘Welcome’ party followed by Dinner or BBQ as appropriate. Throughout the weekend the package includes all meals as well as beer, wines and soft drinks whilst at Tertre Rouge. Minibuses will be on hand for transport to and from the pits as well as the ‘Village’ area.

THE CARS In an effort to further the spirit of the’ Le Mans Classic’ weekend and as the racing is for cars of the type raced at Le Mans up to 1974, they are giving priority bookings to those wishing to attend with a car of a type built up to 1974. (I.e. an Aston Martin V8 of 1989 is eligible as the model was in production from 1972 until 1989. As is an ‘E’ type Jaguar, as they were built up to 1974; an XJS, for instance, introduced in 1975, is not.)
