Launched at the 2008 Monterey Car Week in California, the SL65 AMG Black Series is the ultimate SL produced by Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance division, AMG.

Based on the production SL65, the Black Series featured extensive enhancements to both the bodywork and the drive train. The 6.0 litre V12 Biturbo engine was fitted with larger turbos and a bigger intercooler, whilst the ECU was remapped, increasing power to an almighty 661 horsepower, and producing 738 pound-feet of torque.

The modifications continued to the exterior, with extensive use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic being used on most of the bodywork, including a lightweight fixed roof being fitted in the place of the standard cars heavy retractable hard-top. A retractable carbon fibre spoiler was added to the boot, while the widened body allowed the track to be increased by 4.5 inches at the front, and 4.1 inches at the rear.

The end results were mind bending, with the Black Series being capable of 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 199mph.

Production was limited to only 350 examples, only of which 12 cars were produced in right-hand-drive configuration for the UK market.

The example we are pleased to offer was built to UK right-hand-drive specification and delivered new to its first and only owner in June 2009. Specified in the desirable colour combination of Palladium Silver over Black leather and Alcantara, the car has covered only 1,750 miles.

Used sparingly, this Black Series has been recently serviced by Mercedes-Benz of Hertford, where the works included a vehicle health check, replacement of the engine oil, oil filter, brake fluid and air filter.
