Description
"The Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Convertible was a prestigious model that was produced in the early 1960s. It was part of the Mercedes-Benz W112 series, which was manufactured between 1962 and 1967. The 300SE was one of the high-end models of the W112 series, known for its luxurious features and advanced technology for its time. This model was equipped with a 3.0 litre M189 engine, which was a fuel-injected inline-six engine that provided impressive performance and a smooth driving experience. The convertible version of the 300SE was especially sought after for its open-top driving experience, combining the luxury of the 300SE with the enjoyment of a convertible. These classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles are often considered highly collectible and can be quite valuable, especially if they are in good condition.
This absolutely fantastic example of this rare and highly sought after model is presented in dark metallic silver with red leather interior and has a black manually operated hood. This is the Holy Grail of the Mercedes-Benz range of this era and this particular car has been the subject of a restoration totalling in excess of £230,000 and was carried out by a specialised restoration team at Haynes Heritage Engineering in Somerset, which is home to the largest collection of cars in the UK and who undertook the vehicle’s restoration, encompassing a comprehensive project involving disciplines such as metal fabrication, mechanical engineering and paint shop process for the entire body. The result is spectacular. All the work is documented photographically and of course every invoice for this work is also available to view in the history file. The attention to detail is simply sublime, with every aspect meticulously restored or renewed where the experienced engineers felt it was necessary to do so and this can be seen more so in the bodywork which is fabulous and also the underside of the car. The interior was re-trimmed in red leather to correct specification and all the woodwork is superb as one would expect, as is the brightwork which is gleaming. The black hood was renewed and is operated manually with ease and this model looks just as handsome with the hood up or down, unusual for models of this era but as ever, Mercedes-Benz triumphed in this design by creating something of beauty with a great power unit installed mated to an automatic transmission and a ride comfort unmatched by its rivals at that time and quite possibly even today! These 300 SE convertibles are admired for its timeless design, quality craftsmanship and advanced engineering, making it a coveted item among vintage car enthusiasts and collectors.Interested parties should note that the private registration plate shown is to be retained by the vendor and a new, age-related registration issued instead however this may not be present at the time of the auction.
