When the active life of the Mercedes-Benz SL R107 came to an end, it was time for its successor to achieve equally great successes. The task fell to the new SL, with the type code R129, to make people forget about its predecessor. In 1989, the moment arrived, and the elegantly designed roadster, built on a shortened chassis of the W124 sedan, was in the starting blocks to conquer the world.

The new SL is an entirely and beautifully sculpted freshly designed car. With clear family traits it immediately garners many positive reactions. The SL comes with a diverse range of engines, and build quality had rarely been so high, and driving characteristics truly befitting of a Mercedes.

The 300 SL you see here was delivered to its first Belgian owner in November 1993. It was already the 1994model, identifiable by the presence of a digital odometer. This SL has a "Grau," code 078 paint finish The paint of the car is in good condition, with only some very minimal signs of use here and there. Nothing shocking or conspicuous, just a tiny scratch on the edge of the driver's door. The bodywork is all very straight, and the fit and finish are, as you already expected, perfect. The hardtop is also in very neat condition, with both the paint on the outside and the upholstery on the inside well taken care of.

Now that we are inside: the 300 SL has been given the favoured fabric upholstery with a partly checkered pattern. The quality of this upholstery is amazing, making the seats look like new. The mileage of just over 56,000 kilometres (approximately 35,000 miles) certainly helps, but these seats essentially have an eternal life. And the fabric upholstery actually feels more comfortable than the leather version. Everything in the interior indicates that we are dealing with a car that has not had a hard life. The dashboard is in great condition, and the needles of the gauges are still a beautiful deep orange, a sign that the car hasn't suffered from excess sun exposure.

As mentioned above, the SL makes use of a shortened version of the underpinnings of the W124, which is considered one of the best cars ever built. It comes as no surprise that this SL perfectly aligns with that reputation. Fantastic engines, parts built to last forever, and driving qualities that can be described as the perfect combination of comfort and sportiness.

This SL is equipped with the 3-litre straight-six engine, twelve valves version, producing 191 horsepower and is therefore, more than capable. The R129 has covered just over 56,000 kilometres (approximately 35,000 miles), and the original maintenance booklet bears witness to that with a complete set of service stamps. All other original books are also present. Lastly, we should mention that the soft-top is in very good condition, and the underside of the SL is equally impressive. In short, a fully original R129 with low mileage and in a beloved colour scheme: it doesn't get any better than this.
