Description
"The Mercedes-Benz R107 SL model was launched in 1971 and continued a tradition of two-door sports tourers from the world famous German manufacturer that dates back to 1954. The car featured a two-door monocoque bodyshell with independent all-round suspension. The success and popularity of the model is borne out by the 237,287 units that were produced during the cars impressive 18 year build run.
This example is one of the very last R107’s built, being a 1989 car. The car presents beautifully in Smoke Silver with a half chocolate brown leather and half houndstooth cloth interior. The whole car really is in exceptional condition, our vendor purchased it from his business partner, after spending a long time looking for the right SL. This example has no fewer than 30 service stamps, being taken to Mercedes-Benz main agents until 2002 at 75,000 miles, with a further 11 services carried out by a mixture of local garages and Mercedes-Benz specialists since. The car comes to the sale fresh from a service by Mercedes-Benz.
The R107 generation SL has gathered some immense interest in the past few years, and these late 300 models offer possibly the best all round package. The 300 engine offers plenty of power and torque for cruising, without the added expense to be expected from its bigger 500 V8 sibling. Our vendor reports this car is an absolute delight to drive, Mercedes of this era were renowned for their built quality and over-engineered approach, meaning well kept examples can really stand the tests of time.
