"It will never work!" This is what many people may have thought before the success of the Espace exceeded all expectations. Invented by Matra and heavily supported by Philippe Guedon (CEO of Matra Automobile), the MPV concept appealed to Bernard Hanon (CEO of the Regie Nationale des Usines Renault) who decided to launch the production of this very "French" minivan. When it was marketed in July 1984, the Renault Espace had no competitor… or customer! Today, we can smile upon the nine vehicles sold in the first month of its commercialization.
The Espace quickly seduced the public with its design lines, its extreme versatility and the new philosophy it enforced. "Cars to live life" are indeed these new Renault vehicles manufactured at Matra in Romorantin and also at Alpine in the Dieppe factory. 200,000 examples of the first version of the Espace were produced and it gave birth to five generations of this revolutionary concept.
This particular Espace Phase 1 integrated the Renault Classic collection on the 30th June 2004. It has a mileage of 119,189 km and is generally in good condition. The interior is superb and has not suffered from its usage. A standard service and an overhaul of the distribution are to be expected, in order to fully enjoy this discreet and charming Renault which has revolutionised the world of automobile.
