At launch the Jaguar SVR division’s Project 8 was billed as the fastest road car the brand had ever built, the “P8” claimed the lap record for a production saloon car at the tortuous Nürburgring in Germany and aimed to be the most thrilling four-door machine that money can buy. The only disappointment was that Jaguar built just 300 left-hand-drive examples!

Despite it’s big, bold and brawny nature, it’s able to deliver a sledgehammer hit of performance without sacrificing character and tactility.

Project 8 uses the most potent development of Jaguar’s 5-litre supercharged V8 delivering 592bhp at 6500rpm, and 516lb ft of torque at 3500rpm.

Thumb the starter button and that V8 bellows into life before settling to a purposefully burbling idle. As you’d expect, acceleration is eye-widening, the Jag lunging relentlessly towards the horizon with every prod of the accelerator pedal.

There are seemingly endless reserves of power, and as the needle on the rev counter swings around to the red line it’s easy to believe the claimed 0-60mph time of 3.3 seconds – if anything, the Project 8 feels quicker still. Just as impressive is the ear-splitting noise that accompanies it; the bellowing, crackling exhaust note is pure NASCAR. It’s not subtle, but then you don’t buy a car like this to blend into the background.

However, it is the manner of the car’s performance that is more important than the sheer numbers (though of course it is blisteringly fast!) What’s most impressive is that the Project 8 rides extremely well, – it’s supple, controlled, and rarely troubled by poor surfaces with a level of refinement unmatched by its peers.

With only 1,200 miles and a full dealer service history (last serviced August 2022) this ultimate super saloon is available for immediate delivery.
