Description
1973 Honda S550Z "K1"
Frame no. SS50Z 239371
Engine no. SS50ZE-241309
The Honda SS50 is one of the most famous and iconic Honda mopeds, with the SS standing for 'Super Sports'. A moped for real men! The first SS50s of the late 1960s were delivered with a chrome panelled tank and a frame painted in the same colour as the tank's paintwork. Later on they received a longer and slimmer 7-litre tank in red, blue or gold, and a grey frame and chromed mudguards as we have here. The SS50 was introduced with a four-speed gearbox, while the handlebar controls and switches were of the same high quality as those of other Honda motorcycles, being made from cast aluminium. All these bikes came with a chromed high-level exhaust and heat shield.
This semi-restored SS50 K1 model is one of the most desirable for collectors, and comes with Belgian registration papers and a UK V5 document. It is an original French-market model fitted with a 72cc cylinder for some more power. The gold-finished parts have been repainted in their original colour, but the frame retains its original grey paint.
