The Ghibli design by Giugiaro at Ghia was masterful. This stylish model, presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1966, was the ultimate development of the front- engined V8 Maserati, allowing the marque to take a well-earned place in the market for Grand Touring cars. This was helped by the magnificent four-cam engine designed by Giulio Alfieri, powerful and robust, that was capable, in the 4.9-litre version, of powering the Ghibli to 270 km/h.
The example on offer was delivered new in Italy, to the dealer Sport Auto Roma, in April 1972, presented in this superbe "Oro Kelso" color with black leather interior and equipped with power steering and radio. The large file with the car allows us to retrace a part of the car's history. The car stayed for a long time in Holland, from 1982 to 2005, before heading to Finland and being acquired by its current owner, in 2012, from a Dutch professional.
Restored in the past, this Ghibli, with the best engine specification, presents today an interesting and homogeneous patina without being perfect considering the age of the restoration. The leather interior was partially re-done in 2005 in the original black, and the passenger compartment is in good condition. The car
has benefitted from regular maintenance, as confirmed by invoices in the file. In 2016 during a major 5000 € service, in addition to changing fluids and filters, the brakes were overhauled. More recently, the tires have been replaced and the electrical system has been overhauled.
The odometer displays 80,160 km today which is believed to be the original mileage. This attractive 4.9-litre SS Ghibli offers serious assets to enter the world of these sacred monsters of the 70s. Offered with an attractive estimate, it is an opportunity not to be missed.
