Description

Last of the line of these majestic, graceful big cats, 5390MC was the ultimate version of the Mark IX built in the final year of production and featuring the larger tail lamp with amber indicator lenses.

The Mark IX looks like a handful but its power steering, 4-wheel discs brakes, 4 speed Manual gearbox with overdrive, powered by the famous XK3.8 engine makes for a great drive.

Only 4 owners from new and a genuine 54,000 miles, the car is in almost concours condition. The panels are original and arrow straight and there is no corrosion or distortion to any of the panels or brightwork.

The car retains its original door cards and complete tool kit which reside in the front drivers and passengers’ doors.

The car was professionally repainted over 19 years ago and today the car shows no signs of corrosion or defects.

The present owner wanted to use this big cat for international touring and decided to upgrade its original 3 speed Automatic to a period correct Moss 4 Speed manual gearbox with overdrive. At the same time the engine was stripped and rebuilt including new pistons and fully balanced. The radiator was uprated with increased cores and water capacity.

The suspension and the brakes were also overhauled.

The leather seats were serviceable but to bring the interior to the same standard as the body and mechanical condition of this MK IX, the seats were retrimmed. Finally, the brightwork was re-chromed

The car has been serviced every 2500 miles and there will be a letter from the owner covering the continuous and regular maintenance. The car has been rustproofed including chassis, internal cavities, and panels.

Built to tour, this wonderful car has visited New Zealand, South Africa, and Europe.

Provenance includes MOT’s dating from the 70’s to 2022, its original Buff Logbook, Tax Discs and some service-related invoices.
