We have a most magnificent fully restored and mechanically overhauled, Dutch supplied Alvis TA 21 DHC. The Alvis TA21 Drophead coupé was built by Tickford. Between 1950 and 1953 only 302 of the 1316 Alvis TA21’s were of the Drophead coupé variety. Understandably not many are still around and certainly not in this good condition.

This is a Dutch supplied 1953 Alvis TA21 DHC. The car recently underwent a complete, body-off restoration and mechanical overhaul. During this process the opportunity was used to add a number of improvements.

You only need one look to appreciate the car’s bodywork. The baby blue paintwork just jumps out at you. It not only the colour but also its lustre that makes its appearance so attractive. Turning our attention to the car’s bodywork we see the expertly restored panelwork has been put back together

with wonderful perfect alignment. The chrome bumpers and lights are in just as fine a condition. The hood is now mounted to a new wooden frame. They stepped away from the usual manner of fixing the hood to the bodywork aluminium and instead choose a wooden frame. This typifies the amount of detailed attention expended on the restoration. The wheels have been resprayed and shod in Vredestein classic tyres. Alvis TD front disc brakes were mounted as well as adding an assisted braking system.

The interior trim was completely reupholstered. The seats now are reclining and safety seat belts fitted. The seats were naturally also refilled. The windows are now electrically operated and the standard massive steering rod replaced by a telescopic one from a Jaguar. All the electrics have relay switches. The relays and fuses have been hidden from sight under the dashboard. The instruments and controls all work well, exactly as you would expect.

The mechanicals were fully overhauled. The 3.0 litre straight-six following its attention now develops a healthy 110 Ps and has a manual Getrag 5-speed transmission, with the 5th functioning as an overdrive. The car also has a new radiator with cooling fan, circulation pump and an AC alternator. The engine is fed by fully retuned twin carburettors. Brakes and suspension are completely new and in peak condition. The car drives wonderfully well and has a much more modern feel to it than 1953, the year it was built. The 5-speed fitted allows you to keep up at speed with todays traffic, whilst keeping the revs nice and low.

The car comes with workshop manuals and wiring diagrams. This, in other words, is a wonderful, rare, Dutch supplied Alvis TA21 DHC in fully restored and overhauled condition. Without doubt one of the very best on the market!
