Every car enthousiast who has driven one will confirm: the 1M Coupé is one of the best driver's cars BMW has released in the past twenty years. BMW has released plenty good driver's cars, so that's saying something. With rear-wheel drive, a manual gearbox and a straight-six with 340 hp, all the ingredients for a fun car are present. And all that in a nice compact package. This example has covered only 33.500 kilometers and maintenance has always been neatly carried out at a BMW dealer. This pocket rocket is therefore still practically new.

There has never been an M version of the 1-series hatchback, but in 2010 BMW presented enthusiast with an even better treat: the 1M Coupé. This is the most compact modern M model, which already explains for a large part what makes this car so attractive.

Of course, the 1M has a straight-six under the hood, which delivers 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. With the overboost function, the 1M even produces 500 Nm. Of course it doesn't stop there. The track width compared to a normal 1-series Coupé has increased by 74 mm at the front and 46 mm at the rear and the 1M is equipped with, among other things, a limited slip differential and high performance brakes. The 1M shares a large portion of its chassis with the M3 E92. And just like in the M3, you can turn on M Dynamic Mode to increase the fun.

Although the 1M doesn't have as much horsepower, this little rocket is almost as fast as the M3, with a 0-100 time of just 4,9 seconds. More importantly, the 1M is lighter, more compact and more playful. The fact that the 1M was only available with a manual transmission underlines the character of this car: this is a driver's car with a capital D. And with a capital M of course.

The 1M is not just one of the most fun M models, but also one of the rarest. Initially, the plan was to build the car in a limited edition of 2.700 units. However, the 1M was very well received, so BMW eventually built 6.309. This still makes the 1M significantly rarer than most other M models. The fact that it quickly became a sought-after collector's item attests to that.

The 1M may be compact, with its flared wheel arches, four exhausts and the beautiful 19-inch rims, it is an impressive car to see nonetheless. Without becoming over the top. The color Black Sapphire Metallic, in which this example is finished, also contributes to that. Inside the car, you immediately get put in the right mood, with lots of Alcantara and orange contrast stitching.

This BMW has been very well maintained: the car has visited the BMW dealer at least once a year for a check or, if necessary, a service. This 1M was originally delivered in Germany and was imported to The Netherlands by BMW The Hague in 2016. It has covered only 33.500 km and apart from some minor rim damage, the car is still in new condition.

None, this car is completely original.

Remarks

The car is in excellent condition. The only cosmetic shortcoming is that the front rims have recently suffered minor rim damage when driving the car on and off a trailer. Apart from that, this 1M is still as good as new. The car recently (in May) received a glass coating by Sonax.
