Description
"Audi's headquarters are in Bavaria and the company have been a wholly owned (99.55%) subsidiary of Volkswagen AG since 1966, following a phased purchase of its predecessor, Auto Union, from its former owner, Daimler-Benz. Volkswagen relaunched the Audi brand in 1965, with the slogan or tagline of 'Vorsprung durch Technik' meaning 'Progress through Technology'. The Audi image at this time was a conservative one, and so a proposal from chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger was accepted to develop the four-wheel drive technology in Volkswagen's military vehicle for an Audi performance car and rally racing car. The performance car, introduced in 1980, was named the 'Audi Quattro', a turbocharged coupé which was also the first German large-scale production vehicle to feature permanent all-wheel drive through a centre differential. Prominent wins in rallying proved the viability of all-wheel drive racing cars and so the Audi name became associated with advances in automotive technology.
Registered in 1989 this well presented example is the desirable ‘UR’ 10V MB model and is offered in Tornado red over a black leather interior. The paintwork is very good showing little sign of age and the leather interior is in fine order. The wheels have been refurbished and are in excellent order sitting proudly on a relatively new set of tyres with plenty of tread. The Quattro has had just six owners from new and comes complete with a sizeable history file detailing its past. Included in the file is the original book pack and service booklet with many service stamps present as well as various invoices for maintenance work, old MoT test certificates, and the UK V5C registration document. Acquired by the current vendor in September 2018, the Audi has been well maintained and has been treated to minor corrosion repair, notably to the seat belt anchorage points as advised on the last MoT. Only used occasionally in the current vendor’s tenure, he describes the car as sounding fantastic when on song; however due to his ill health the car was placed into a dry storage facility fourteen months ago where it is started and exercised when possible. Interested parties should note that having been dry stored some light recommissioning may be necessary. With MB Turbos offering 197bhp, a top speed of 143mph and a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds, this is no sheep in wolf's clothing and still has the capability to see off competitors today."
