"The Aston Martin V8 engine had begun development in the mid-sixties when it was first used in a Lola Sports racing car with a view to replacing the six cylinder unit which had been in production since the DB4 in 1958. Although always intended to house the new Tadek Marek-designed V8, the DBS first appeared with the 4 litre six of the concurrently produced DB6. Styled in-house by Bill Towns, the four seater DBS employed a platform-type chassis with independent suspension all round: wishbone and coil-spring at the front, De Dion with Watts linkage at the rear. Bigger and more luxuriously appointed than the DB6, the heavier DBS disappointed some by virtue of its slightly reduced performance, but there were no complaints when the V8 arrived in 1969. With an estimated 345bhp available from its 5340cc, quad camshaft engine, the DBS V8 could reach 100mph in less than 14 seconds, running on to a top speed of 160mph - a staggering performance in those days and one which fully justified the claim that it was the fastest production car in the world. Even in automatic transmission form the V8 could reach 100mph in around 15 seconds and an impressive 145mph flat-out.
This handsome Aston Martin V8 Oscar India was supplied new in Oman via Zubair Enterprises, the Aston Martin agents for the area. Little is known of the early history of the car, however paperwork on file suggests it ended up belonging to a former employee of the Sultan of Oman in a partially restored condition. The car was then sent to Aston Workshop, a well-respected marque specialist. Work carried out included bodywork restoration, chassis refurbishment as required and a full retrim of the interior. Sadly, the owner at the time passed away and Aston Workshop ended up purchasing the car and completing it. Additional work carried out included a front brake upgrade, a total overhaul of the suspension and steering, a gearbox overhaul, full refurbishment of the car’s electrics and a new stainless steel exhaust was fitted. Chassis number 12147 has had a huge amount of time and investment and as such, presents in beautiful condition today. The metallic blue coachwork is unmarked and is of a very high quality; the Surf Blue interior is as new and the chromework gleaming. This exceptionally high quality Oscar India comes with a V5C registration document, a good history folder and a current MoT test certificate valid until 27th October 2021. This Aston Martin could well prove to be a shrewd investment given the estimate.
