Interesting history
Beautiful appearance
Rare model

Marcel Pourtout created his workshop in Bougival in 1925. With huge success, his business grew from 1928. In 1936, the body shop moved to Rueil-Malmaison in the old Hurtu’s workshop. This vast space will allow the production of small series while producing unique cars. The workshop will produce many bodies based on Lancia Belna or Ardennes. Pourtout will also be entrusted with the manufacture of the famous 402 Darl'Mat, designed by Paulin. Many creations were build based on prestigious brands as Bugatti, Delahaye, Hispano-Suiza or Delage, the most famous today is certainly the Coach D8-120 S.
The car, in our catalog, is a Lancia Ardennes (the Ardennes is an Aprilia manufactured in the French factory in Bonneuil-sur-Marne). This one was first a cabriolet bodied by Pourtout between 1937 and 1938. According to the coachbuilder's register, this car, with the order number 1542, left his workshop on January 3rd, 1938. It was then delivered to Lancia in Lille. At that time, it was painted in a deep blue color with a blue leather interior and a matching convertible hood. At first, 10 convertibles were produced (from number 1542 to 1551), our 1542 chassis number is the second Ardennes convertible produced by Pourtout, the first was the prototype exhibited at the Salon de Paris, in 1937. Pourtout built 32 Lancia Ardennes as convertibles, 3 as sedan and only one coupé.
Our car is now presented as a coach, so its bodywork has certainly been modified. This car was discovered in the Indre French department by its former owner in the 90’s. Its condition required a complete restoration that will take several years. The car was completely dismantled before receiving a new red paint. The owner was a saddler and did by himself the brown imitation leather. The engine was replaced by a V4 Tipo 99, more supple than the original Tipo 97. In 2010, the current owner bought the car and maintained it. Lately, it was repainted, get a new battery and four new tires.
We have to say that in 2017 this Lancia was exhibited at Chantilly Art et Elégance, where the coachbuilder Pourtout was in the spotlight. Our car had a tumultuous life but its origins make it a rare and desirable car. The new owner will be free to respect its history or to give it back its original configuration.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, on June the 20th, 2021.
