Description
"Marcos was founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin, in 1961 Costin left Marcos and Denis Adams took over as stylist working with his carpenter brother Peter. The cars were a big hit with the in crowd during the 60s and 70s with the likes of film director Sam Wanamaker, Rod Stewart and many other celebrity's enjoying ownership. The Marcos evolved from the race track and is a true drivers car. The basic design endured for more than three decades and evolved to cope with over 500bhp. The first five years saw the Marcos produced with a wooden chassis after which a more conventional tubular steel space frame was used. Wood was a much misunderstood medium, it is light, simple to repair, very strong and has an important degree of flexibility. The original 1800 and other 1960’s and 1970’s Marcos are still competitive in both FIA and HSCC (UK) historic racing series.
The Marcos Cars original sales sheet confirms that chassis 3V5836 was supplied by Hexagon of Highgate, London and delivered to its first owner, Mr. Kaye of Finchley, London. Offered in its original colour combination of Tangerine with a Black Cirrus interior this Marcos is fitted with its original three Litre Volvo unit. This Marcos is presented in good order throughout after having been part of a private collection for some time. The paintwork is good but does show some minor cracking as you would expect with a fibreglass body. The interior is also presented well and the engine bay is clean. Reported to run and drive well, this Marcos comes with a comprehensive history file detailing its history. Included in the sizeable history file are various sundry bills, old MoT test certificates, the original build sheet and the V5 registration document."
