Description

"Launched in 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and its Bentley S3 equivalent employed the 6.2 litre aluminium-alloy V8 engine first introduced in the Silver Cloud II although with larger carburettors, new distributor and raised compression ratio. It also came with a four-speed GM derived automatic gearbox as standard equipment. Most obvious, among many changes from the preceding models, was the adoption of four headlamp lighting, the absence of sidelights from the wing tops and a slightly lower radiator shell. Inside, there was improved accommodation with separate front seats and increased room for rear passengers. Notable as the last mainstream Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis, the Silver Cloud III remained in production until superseded by the unitary-construction Silver Shadow in late 1965. The Cloud represented a supremely elegant design and is often regarded as the last true Rolls-Royce.
First registered on 25th November 1963 and dispatched to Jack Barclay Ltd for its first owner a Mr Gebra Esq. of Hyde Park, London. This immensely curvaceous stunning Cloud III is presented in stunning silver coachwork with full black leather trim complemented by ample walnut on the dashboard, door cappings and rear picnic tables. Originally specified with special features including electric windows and combined parking and blinking lights found in the original order supplied from the Rolls Royce and Bentley enthusiasts. This example has had just two previous keepers from new on the logbook the original owner for 36 years before our vendor purchased the car and then transferred into his personal collection from his business in 2015. Part of his significant private collection in 1999 ALC 486A has benefitted from continual annual maintenance and when not in use stored inside in a professional ventilated Carcoon. Whilst in his tenure our vendor has refreshed the paintwork but due to the low mileage and ownership the car is in fabulous condition with soft leather and good walnut woodwork. This example runs well with the 6230cc, V8 engine offering the familiar purr; we are advised she drives well and the history file boasts original order form, assembly paperwork and even original servicing from Jack Barklay. With seats akin to your favourite armchair, there is little wonder that these classic Rolls-Royces are becoming increasingly desirable and this Silver Cloud III is as comfortable to travel in today as it was in 1963.
