Description

If the greatest race cars of all times were listed out, there is no doubt that the 917 KH would feature in it, somewhere close to the top. Whether it’s the historic win at Le Mans in 1970, or the win in 1971 that even inspired the Porsche 917s leading role in Steve McQueen’s 1971 film, ‘Le Mans’. The 917K did not have to wait long for success. On its public debut at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, John Wyer's Gulf-sponsored team finished 1-2 in the race, with the winning car breaking the distance record by 190 miles, and then going on to clinch Porsche’s first-ever Le Mans win later in the year. Come 1971, and the 917 took six major victories topped by another overall win at Le Mans. Featured in this design poster is distinctive Gulf-liveried 917 coming second in ‘71, driven by Richard Attwood and Herbert Müller.
