Description

Current family ownership since 2007, Comprehensive Mercedes-Benz service history

The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two door convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form!

This stunning low mileage SL55 was registered on 19th August 2002 and is presented in Lapis Blue with contrasting full red leather trim and optioned with keyless entry and Nokia mobile phone connectivity. Since 2007 the car has been owned and cherished by one family with the father passing the car on to his son; the father, a well known Lagonda enthusiast, specified this car in the same colour combination as his beloved 1937 Lagonda Rapide, FFB 198, which was sold in 2015 upon his passing. Supplied in exceptional order throughout, the car comes with two original keys, handbook, factory wind deflector together with the history file which contains current and previous V5, previous MoT test certificates, full Mercedes-Benz digital history print-out plus supporting invoices. On inspection of these invoices, this example has also had the important suspension pump, hood pump and seal all replaced by Mercedes-Benz. Most recently the car has had two new Mercedes-Benz batteries and a new MoT test until February 2021 having only covered 100 miles since its last MoT test. A stunning, low mileage example of this fabulous collectable modern classic from long term ownership.
