Ferdinand Porsche had been quietly working on a design since the late fifties, knowing that demand for his ever-popular 356 would eventually wane, and he would need a replacement that was fit for the changing needs of the mid-sixties. Eventually, the new car took shape on his drawing board and the 901 (later 911) was born and this design still, to this day, underpins the production of Porsche AG of Stuttgart. Before long the merits of using the Porsche 911 in competitive motorsport became apparent and history records it as one of the most successful campaigners of all time. From the 24 Hours of Le Mans to grassroots motorsport, the 911 offered reliable performance in many guises.

For 1970, the C-Series 911 was introduced with a larger cylinder bore giving a capacity of 2195cc, producing 125bhp and now badged as a "T" at this power output. Alterations to suspension pick-up points improved the handling and gave a little more steering feel. Six-inch Fuchs 'five-leaf' forged alloys were now a standard fit.

This left-hand drive 1970 Porsche 911 2.2 T Coupe was originally supplied new from the Porsche Centre New York in 1970. There is a US title document showing the previous keeper had owned the car from the late 1970s. We understand that the car was restored in California and it certainly presents really well with a very clean, nicely detailed engine bay and bright paintwork. The Porsche Certificate confirms that it is matching numbers and the original colour and year of production. The current owner travelled to California to purchase the car personally from the Beverley Hills Car Club and then imported it into the UK. It's now UK registered with a current V5C and fresh MoT showing no advisories. Finished in desirable Burgundy Red (Brunrot ?) with genuine Fuchs wheels and Gold badges this is a very good looking early 70’s 911, apparently drives well, and with straight through exhaust manifolds it makes all the right noises. The odometer indicates just over 3,500 miles which, we imagine, are post-restoration

Early 911s possess a certain purity of line, a complete world away from the aerodynamic extravagances of the eighties and nineties, and in terms of style, it's the early cars that engender the most appreciative glances. A well set-up and maintained 911T, 'E' or 'S' driven with an intelligent right foot will provide some of the most quintessentially rewarding driving experiences you have ever had, and even the 125bhp 911T, for sale here, will leave you with a serious grin.
