Description

Designed for comfort and performance, the 911 E shared Bosch’s mechanical fuel injection system with the S model, but featured a more accessible power band for daily driving. The rarest of Porsche’s 1973 model lineup, just 1,896 E models were built as Targas. Widespread changes were made for 1974, and the 1973 cars are coveted throughout the world.

According to its original sales invoice, this Signal Yellow 911 E Targa was retailed by Porsche Audi Capitol Inc., in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, in February 1973. Purchased by a young couple in nearby Williamsport, the Targa was equipped with 15" Fuchs wheels, the optional Appearance Group, and a dealer-installed eight-track tape player, for a total price of just over $10,200.

Accompanied by a pristine set of manuals, the Porsche’s maintenance record bears the stamps of the delivering dealer, spanning the first eight years of the car’s life and two-thirds of its 66,526-mile odometer reading at the time of cataloguing. The original owners, whose names remain on a dealer-installed plaque on the glove box door, kept their Targa until late 2017, when it was acquired by the consignor.

Also accompanied by a tool kit and proper jack, this Targa has been sequestered for decades and has yet to make its debut to the Porsche enthusiast community. Offered for public sale for the first time, this classic awaits its next adventure.
