Introduced in 1976 through a collaboration between Fiat, Abarth and Bertone, the 131 Abarth Rally transformed Fiat’s two-door saloon into a leading contender in motorsport. Just 400 examples of the Stradale version were built to secure Group 4 homologation for its competition counterpart.
Powered by a 1,995 cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine with a 16-valve cylinder head and 140 PS, the Stradale brought the character of Abarth’s engineering to the road. The competition version claimed three World Rally Championship manufacturers’ titles in 1977, 1978 and 1980, as well as the 1980 World Drivers’ Championship with Walter Röhrl, securing the 131’s place in rallying history.
