Lamborghini’s successor to the Diablo, and the first new model devised under the control of the Volkswagen Group, was the Murciélago. Released in 2001 with deliveries to the United States beginning the following model year, it featured a carbon fibre body wrapped around a tubular space frame. At speed, the Murciélago automatically deploys a rear spoiler and a pair of “bat wings”, which emerge from the rear canopy to improve engine cooling. These famous panels are among the most distinctive, stylish, and functional features of Luc Donckerwolke’s design.
The 6.2-litre V-12 engine and six-speed gated manual transmission were entirely revised, and heralded as vast improvements over previous offerings. This standard powerplant was factory-rated at 575 horsepower and coupled to an all-wheel-drive system; 0-97 km/h arrived in just 3.8 seconds.
The immensely desirable example offered here was specified with a gated six-speed manual transmission and delivered new to its first owner in Tokyo, Japan via Lamborghini Edogawa on 5 January 2004. The car was finished from the factory in a scheme synonymous with the model, presenting in Giallo Orion over a leather interior with yellow stitching. Well documented, the car is offered alongside a warranty card, owner’s manuals, invoices, and a Japanese history report. Lightly driven over the past two decades, the odometer shows just 13,185 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. It is further accompanied by a Lamborghini car cover.
This attractively presented Lamborghini, with its distinctive paintwork and manual gearbox, offers an enticing opportunity to own a supercar from a celebrated period of production by the Sant’Agata Bolognese manufacturer. The six-speed Murciélago has long been in demand for the analogue driving experience it provides, and this example begs to be exercised on the open road.
