Description
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' The Munich Auction event, 20 November 2026.
- Attractively finished in Silver Metallic over red leather upholstery
- Equipped with sealed-beam headlights, bumper overriders, dual side mirrors, chrome disc wheel covers, and whitewall tyres
- Powered by a 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission
- A wonderful example of Mercedes-Benz’s glamorous 1950s roadster
Reflecting on Mercedes-Benz’s 1950s model range, this era represents the bedrock of the Three-Pointed Star’s legendary reputation for making some of the finest road-going sports cars. Bosses at the Stuttgart firm realised the importance of meeting the growing trend towards convertibles, chiefly motivated by great demand in the United States. And so, in 1955, the 190 SL joined the line-up alongside the all-conquering 300 SL.
On offer is a wonderful 190 SL finished in a period-correct combination of Silver Metallic paint over red leather upholstery. The interior features jewel-like brightwork, correct German square weave carpeting, a Blaupunkt radio, a heater box, and a full complement of factory-correct VDO instrumentation. This car was acquired by its consigning owner in 2013, while invoices on file confirm a multitude of parts were purchased in 2017 to perform an engine rebuild.
Treasured by many enthusiasts for its good looks, usability, and reliability, the 190 SL has been a highly sought-after collector car for years, with instantly familiar styling and a driving experience pleasurable for extended touring. This example, handsomely presented in a classic colour scheme, will surely be appreciated by a connoisseur of these charming, eternally popular Mercedes-Benz roadsters.
