Descending from a long line of BMW sports coupés, the E24-generation M635CSi was introduced in 1984. It boasted an engine derived from the M1’s 3.5-litre 24-valve six-cylinder unit, capable of producing 286 PS, and was mated to a five-speed gearbox. Accordingly, the E24’s brakes, suspension, and weight distribution were all altered to adjust for the increase in power; a limited-slip differential was also fitted. The top speed was quoted as being in excess of 250 km/h, while the M635CSi could sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in roughly six seconds.
The example offered here was marked complete by BMW’s Dingolfing factory on 1 April 1985, built to 1985 model year specification, and delivered to its first owner in Italy on 3 May. From new, the M635CSi was finished in Diamant Schwarz over Anthracite-coloured Buffalo leather and included options such as air conditioning. Later coming into the ownership of its vendor, the dealer principal of a BMW garage in Germany, the car was subject to an engine rebuild by its main dealer, with invoices available to view on file. It is offered at auction with 95,839 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.
