- A brilliant contender for entry into rallies and events around the world
The Giovanni Michelotti-designed Alpine A110 was launched in 1963, with production finishing in 1977. Based on the previous A108, the A110 was underpinned by Renault components, while retaining Alpine’s philosophy for rear-engine design. It featured a featherweight fibreglass body over a steel chassis, offered a range of engine options, and in its lightest guise tipped the scales at just over 700 kilograms. The A110 became a French competition icon, clinching the inaugural Manufacturers’ World Rally Championship title in 1973 off the back of a famous 1-2-3 finish in that year’s Monte Carlo Rally. Production of the Alpine-Renault came in parallel with the road-going A110 berlinetta that went head-to-head with contemporary rivals such as the Porsche 911.
This eye-catching example was built in January 1973 at the FASA production facility in Valladolid, Spain. One of just 908 A110 1300s constructed by FASA, the rare A110 was originally fitted with the 1,289-cc V85 engine. It now features the revered type 847 1.4-litre powerplant, as fitted to the Renault 5 Alpine, which is paired with a five-speed gearbox. In its time with a renowned Dutch enthusiast owner, the Alpine-Renault was transformed after being taken from non-running condition, had its lightweight body shell restored, further to upgraded Koni suspension and Renault 16 TX brakes being equipped. Chassis number BA0337 presents an incredible opportunity to acquire a tuned A110 that would no doubt be admired and celebrated at events such as classic rallies.
