South Coast-based auction house Barons held its last sale of 2010 at its familiar, Esher venue and, once again, it was an Aston Martin which hogged the headlines.

Following its £206,000 ‘barn find’ DB2 Mk III drophead coupé at the September 7 sale, Barons sold a similar, 1959 car for £175,500 in December. Also in the auction was a ‘rolling chassis with boxes of bits’ (our description...) 1958 Aston Martin DB Mk III DHC, which sold for £67,061, an aftermarket conversion 1979 AM V8 Convertible (£25,379) and an example of the rapidly appreciating DBS 6 Vantage, a 1968 car which achieved £22,361.

Also at Esher on 7 December, two other iconic British marques enjoyed saleroom success. The 1935 Jaguar (SS Cars) SS1 Tourer went for £78,235, while a Classic Driver favourite, the ‘Chinese Eye’ 1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III drophead coupé by Mulliner Park Ward, sold for £67,061.

Barons’ MD, Laurence Sayers-Gillan, was in seasonal good humour after the December auction. “Our Yuletide Sale is always popular, and I know that at least a couple of the lots are destined to be surprise Christmas presents for some very lucky enthusiasts.

“The result shows that not even the worst of the weather can keep buyers away if the cars on offer are attractive enough,” he said.
