Description

One of the most unfiltered sports cars of all time
With its last Austrian owner since 2013
Extensive service history in recent years
43,000 kilometres on the clock
There is no substitute for cubic capacity. Except even more cubic capacity. When Dodge unleashed the Viper onto the road in the early 1990s, it seemed like the antithesis of the increasingly sensible sports car. No turbo, no four-wheel drive and as little electronics as possible – but an enormous V10 beneath an even more enormous bonnet.
In 1996, the Viper GTS arrived as the closed version. Its roof, with its characteristic twin humps, was a deliberate nod to American racing cars of the past, as was the blue-and-white paintwork of the early examples. More importantly, however, the GTS was far more than simply a Viper with a fixed roof.
Under that endless bonnet sat an 8.0-litre V10, its aluminium construction developed with the involvement of Lamborghini. By the turn of the millennium, it was producing 456 hp and more than 660 Nm of torque. Gears were changed exclusively by hand through a Tremec six-speed gearbox, while naturally, only the rear wheels were driven.
The 2000 Viper still had no ABS, nor was there any electronic stability control. Anyone ordering this much power and displacement got it delivered largely unfiltered. Wide tyres, comparatively low weight and immense torque provided supercar levels of performance. At the same time, the Viper demanded rather more attention from its driver than its contemporary rivals. Today, that is precisely where much of its appeal lies. Eight litres, ten cylinders and six gears – and what happened next was entirely in the driver’s hands.
This Viper GTS was built in 2000, although it was not first registered until July 2005. It had been in the hands of its last owner since 2013. A continuous service history from 2013 through to the end of 2025 shows just how seriously he took the care of his extraordinary sports car. At 34,000 kilometres, the V10 received an extensive service, and meticulous records were kept of all work carried out.
Today, the Viper feels like an automotive anachronism, openly flaunting its own lack of reason. And that is precisely what makes it so fascinating: equal parts healthy respect and infinite cool.
