Description
Chassis No. CS630Y
Engine No. 263924
The Roadster offered here was among the most sporting of the 1929 Chrysler range-an open two-seater with a rumble seat for two more, full crown fenders, a narrow-profile radiator, and a folding top for weather protection. Chrysler's factory build sheet on file confirms that chassis number CS630Y was completed on 7 September 1928 as a Sport Roadster, its body built at the company's Kercheval plant and originally finished in Medium Turquoise. Loaded at the Jefferson plant on 11 September, it was dispatched to Detroit as a drive-away. The records also list engine no. 263924, confirming that the Roadster presently retains its original engine.
A Michigan certificate of title issued in March 1934 records the Roadster with Eustace Anteau of Newport, Michigan, whose annual registration stamps continue through 1956. It later spent many years in the Chicago, Illinois area with Jack Gratzianna of Oak Brook, who was restoring it by 1988. During his ownership, the Chrysler received a comprehensive cosmetic restoration comprising a full exterior refinish and brown leather upholstery for both the bench and the rumble seat. That work was rewarded in 1997 with an Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) National First Junior award, the badge for which still proudly adorns its grille.
In 2016, the Roadster joined the stable of an Iowa enthusiast who set out to make it a reliable long-distance touring car with the intention of participating in the Peking to Paris rally. He entrusted it to Anderson Restoration of Kanawha, Iowa, for a no-expense-spared mechanical restoration totaling some $120,000 and encompassing an engine rebuild with new pistons and valves, full rewiring, a re-cored radiator, and a refreshed transmission and rear differential. A Gear Vendors two-speed overdrive was also fitted behind the original three-speed gearbox, effectively granting six forward gears.
After changing hands in 2021, the Chrysler crossed the Atlantic to Switzerland, where it put its preparation to use at the 2023 Mille Miglia Storica, completing the event trouble-free as start number "42." Under current ownership, the Roadster returned to the Mille in 2025, once again performing flawlessly. Its restoration has aged remarkably well, and today the car is presented in black with maroon moldings and radiator shutters accented by gray pinstriping. It rides on stainless-spoked wire wheels and carries dual side-mounted spares, twin driving lamps, and a rear trunk. It also wears a 1929 Illinois license plate.
With a Registro 1000 Miglia book valid through September 2029 and eligibility for Le Mans Classic, this Model 75 offers an accessible entry point to two of the most exclusive events on the European historic calendar.
