= Remarks =
The first generation of the car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5, 1996. The XK was the long-awaited successor to the XJS, a model that had been in production for 22 years. The XK's debut also marked the market launch of Jaguar's new AJ-V8 engine. Available as both a coupé and a convertible, the XK came exclusively with a 4.0-liter V8 engine paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. However, buyers could choose between two power outputs: 294 hp or 363 hp. The latter featured a supercharger. The naturally aspirated version was named the XK8, while the supercharged model was designated the XKR.
The final X100 rolled off the assembly line on May 27, 2005; it was also the last car produced at Jaguar's Browns Lane factory. This brought the total production of this XK generation to 91,406 units. Two-thirds of the XKs produced were convertibles, a body style that was particularly popular in the United States.
A second facelift was introduced in September 2002. Exterior changes were limited to new headlight units for the XKR, which featured black inner housings instead of chrome. There were more significant changes under the skin, however. The 4.0-liter V8 was bored out to 4.2 liters, resulting in an output of 300 hp (XK8) or 396 hp (XKR). The 4.0-liter version had suffered from issues with its timing chain tensioners—which contained plastic components—but this problem was resolved in the 4.2-liter engine by installing stainless steel units. Additionally, the ZF 5-speed automatic transmission was replaced by a 6-speed unit. The car presented here is the improved XKR model featuring the 4.2L engine, equipped with—among other things—stainless steel timing chain tensioners. It was originally delivered in the Netherlands by Jaguar Maastricht. The most recent owner held the car for six years and maintained it meticulously; only minor components were replaced, such as the front brake discs and some ball joints. Having acquired the vehicle at 85,000 km, the last owner drove it for approximately 53,000 km.
The Jaguar is in a condition that makes it look almost brand new. The interior is in fantastic shape, and the bodywork remains pristine; it still wears its original paint. Furthermore, this car represents the most powerful version in the XK model series. A magnificent vehicle for the true Jaguar enthusiast.
