The Alfa Romeo RZ is not a car that tries to please everyone. It never has. The lines are sharp, the proportions unusual, and the presence anything but cautious. Some cars are designed to appeal to as many people as possible. The RZ seems more like it was created for people who are not afraid to have a clear opinion. And that is exactly what makes it interesting.

The RZ is the open-top version of the Alfa Romeo SZ, the model developed in the late 1980s under the project name ES-30: Experimental Sportscar 3.0 litre. Alfa Romeo wanted to prove once again that it could still build distinctive, characterful sports cars. Not by playing it safe, but by creating something immediately recognizable. An Alfa with a Zagato badge, built in very limited numbers and using engineering that traced its roots back to the Alfa Romeo 75.

Under the hood is the familiar 3.0-liter Busso V6. An engine that has by now become almost as legendary as some complete car models. It delivers its power in a way that suits Alfa Romeo perfectly: smooth, lively, and with a soundtrack that has far more character than strictly necessary. The RZ was never an anonymous sports car. This is a car you hear, feel, and remember.

The mechanical foundation of the RZ is serious. Its transaxle layout, rear-wheel drive, and suspension—further developed using motorsport expertise—give the car a distinctly mechanical character. No filtered modern experience here, but a direct roadster in which the driver remains a clear part of the process. The RZ demands involvement and rewards it with a great deal of sensation in return.

And frankly, this color suits the RZ exceptionally well. The shape of the car is already outspoken; a restrained color would almost feel out of place.
