Ferrari's Formula 1 program had never been more commanding than it was in the summer of 2002. Michael Schumacher took the Drivers' Championship after only 11 Grands Prix, with the Constructors' title following close behind, and Ferrari launched the Enzo that same year to mark the achievement and to honor its founder.

Publicly unveiled in September 2002 at the Paris Motor Show, the Enzo represents the singular, road-going expression of the engineering that had made Ferrari unbeatable in Formula 1 at the turn of the millennium. Composite construction was used throughout the monocoque and the body, much of it aluminum honeycomb, Nomex and carbon fiber sandwich panels and the carbon weave was left visible inside the cabin. Pininfarina's Ken Okuyama-whose signature this example carries-shaped the bodywork around an underbody diffuser in place of a rear wing, while pushrod-actuated dampers worked at all four corners. Brembo supplied carbon-ceramic discs of the kind used in Formula 1, which delivered enormous stopping power while cutting unsprung weight.

The all-new 6.0-liter Tipo F140 B V12 was the first of a new engine family for Maranello, designed around four-valve combustion chambers and variable inlet timing to produce 651 horsepower. Its electro-hydraulic six-speed transmission shifted in roughly 150 milliseconds, with Sport and Corsa modes and launch control borrowed directly from the grand prix cars. Top speed was 217 mph, 60 mph arrived in 3.3 seconds and the car could run from rest to 124 mph and back to a standstill in 14.2 seconds.

Completed at Maranello in February 2003 and finished in an all-red Rosso Corsa over Pelle Rossa livery, chassis number 131631 was among 111 Enzos originally dispatched to the United States of the 400 produced. Marque historian Marcel Massini records that the car was sold new on 13 May 2003 through Ferrari of Long Island in Plainview, New York, to its first owner.

In July 2003, the Enzo passed to a second owner in Texas. It was during this ownership that a routine service uncovered a valvetrain issue known to affect a number of early Enzos, a flaw the factory advised their dealer network to watch for at the time. Upon discovery, Ferrari replaced the engine under warranty, shipping the original unit back to Maranello for analysis and fitting a complete replacement, number 73365. The substitution is documented in the car's Ferrari Classiche Red Book, which states "Engine replaced by Ferrari Spa in 2005." For collectors seeking properly sorted driving examples, an Enzo that has already been through this process is often preferred to a low-mileage example still on its original engine, which has yet to accumulate the use that would reveal any hidden faults.

In August 2006, chassis 131631 was acquired by a Nevada collector. Shortly afterward, while being transported to the owner's second home, it sustained some damage. Ferrari of Las Vegas subsequently carried out the repairs to factory specifications to the passenger side, the right-rear quarter panel, and the undertray. The damage was moderate enough that the car's CARFAX Vehicle History Report remains clean with no accidents or damage noted and the accompanying Classiche "Red Book" does not note any bodywork or chassis repairs. Ferrari of Las Vegas also carried out an exterior color change to Nero following the repairs, a color originally applied to just a dozen North American–delivery examples.

The car passed through one further Nevada owner before leaving the United States. According to the Massini Report, it passed through several hands, moving through Monte Carlo, Vienna, and Switzerland before arriving in Munich, Germany in 2010. It was during this European chapter that a previous owner made the decision to return it to its original color, commissioning Carrozzeria Zanasi in Maranello to return the car to its original Rosso Corsa presentation. The interior, originally trimmed in Pelle Rossa, was retrimmed in Pelle Nera, a subtle yet appealing change that lends the red coachwork a more purposeful contrast. Few firms could have been better suited to the work. Established in Maranello in 1964 at Enzo Ferrari's own request and still a factory-authorized carrozzeria, Zanasi carries out much of the paintwork for Ferrari's special-order and Tailor Made programs and has finished the marque's limited-series flagships-which makes the refinishing of chassis 131631 a return to the very hands Maranello trusts with its most important cars, rather than a typical repaint.

The present owner acquired chassis 131631 in 2024. Most recently, on 5 March 2026 at 17,159 miles, the car was serviced by Ferrari Dallas in Plano, Texas, where it received the annual fluid and filter service, a multi-point inspection, four new tires, a four-wheel alignment, a new battery, a replacement passenger-side dashboard air vent and cosmetic refinishing beneath the front bumper-addressing the light scraping common to cars of such minimal ground clearance.

With Enzo values climbing so steeply in recent times, a great many of the 400 built now lead sedentary lives, delivery-mileage cars passed between private collections, admired and photographed but rarely exercised. Against that backdrop, chassis 131631 is an enticing proposition. Resplendent in its original Rosso Corsa finish, this is an Enzo that has been properly sorted, its known history addressed and resolved, leaving nothing to the imagination.

Enzo Ferrari had little patience for travel as mere transport. Asked once about driving, he said that getting from one place to the next had never been the appeal: "I enjoy feeling the car's reactions, becoming part of it." Ferrari Classiche certified, comprehensively documented, freshly serviced by Ferrari Dallas and asking nothing of its next owner but to be driven, chassis 131631 is among the few Enzos genuinely prepared to be used the way its namesake intended. Enter it in the Cavalcade Classiche, run it on any of the marque's touring rallies, or simply drive it home from the sale.
