Honda CRX 1.6 VTEC, 1991. One owner, 51,349 km, service books from new.
Remember when Honda, in the early '90s, briefly knocked the establishment off its perch? While the Germans were still busy calculating how much torque you could squeeze out of a block, Japan came along with an engine technology that turned the whole thing on its head. VTEC. Variable valve timing, where at a certain rpm the engine suddenly switches from calm commuter to an entirely different character. You're pottering gently through town, and then you flick the needle towards the red zone and something happens. A second personality awakens. From tidy office clerk to an excitable young pup straining at the leash.
I've always thought it one of the finest pieces of engineering trickery from that era. No turbo that first needs a moment to think it over, no heavy artillery, just sheer cleverness. And the beauty of it: that 1.6 litre keeps spinning up into territory where many engines of that period would long since have taken early retirement. A crescendo you'd normally need a Royal Albert Hall season ticket to hear.
The CRX was the playful two-door based on the Civic, but lower, shorter and infinitely more enthusiastic. The generation before you is the last real one, the ED9 with that jaunty profile and the twin rear screen. A car you don't buy to impress the neighbours, but to find an empty B-road on a quiet Sunday morning and let the VTEC engine do its thing. Pure, light, direct. Real driving, the way it was meant to be.
The story continues on our website, where the full file is kept as well. 95 photographs including the underside. The service history, scanned in full. Paint thickness measured panel by panel. A timeline from 24 September 1991 to today, with every owner and the mileage year by year in a single graph.
Every car here follows the same route: first pre-market, then the showroom, and finally the live auction on our own site. What changes is the way you buy, not the location — once a car has arrived, it stays with us in Katwijk. This one is in the showroom and you are welcome to come and see it, no appointment needed. You buy it here at a fixed price: no bidding, no waiting. Our showroom in Katwijk, 30 km from Amsterdam Schiphol, is open Mon–Fri 9–18 and Sat 10–17. Call ahead and it will be standing ready, with someone free for you.
Within the EU no customs duty arises on this purchase. Registration tax and registration costs in your own country are not included. We supply the export documents and assist with the registration. The price shown is the full price for collection in Katwijk. We arrange insured door-to-door transport worldwide, cost quoted per destination beforehand.
