In the late 1990s, the dynamic Luca di Montezemolo reversed Ferrari's struggling fortunes in the wake of Enzo's passing. The all-new 550 Maranello, introduced in 1996, marked the beginning of Ferrari's renaissance. Looking to the future but with an eye to the past, Ferrari returned to a traditional front-engine V12 layout for its flagship sports car-not seen since the demise of the 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" in 1973. At the 550 Maranello's heart is a 48-valve, 5.5-liter V12 making 479 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The latest electronic engine management systems allowed for unparalleled flexibility at any speed while the chassis had all-independent suspension with selectable, adjustable damping, speed-sensitive steering, and powerful disc brakes.

Pininfarina's gorgeous styling is classically proportioned and emotive, yet carefully honed in the wind tunnel for aerodynamic efficiency. Styling details like the large bonnet air scoop and vents slash-cut behind the front wheel arches recall the great competizione Ferraris of the past, earning the 550 "future classic" status nearly from day one.

Finished in the handsome combination of Grigio Titanio over Nero leather upholstery, this 1999 550 Maranello was sold new through The Collection Ferrari of Coral Gables, Florida, in December 1998, the car was first titled in Scottsdale, Arizona, in January 1999 with 91 miles recorded. It passed to Texas shortly thereafter, where it was titled in Dallas in August 2000. A second owner registered the car in Plano in November 2005, and in January 2014 it passed to a third owner in Austin, where it remained for over a decade.

The CARFAX Vehicle History Report documents a sideswipe collision on 3 September 2010, with damage confined to the left side and no airbag deployment, after which the car was declared a total loss by its insurer. It is reported to have been repainted during the ensuing repair. The 550 is offered today with a clean Texas title.

During its Austin ownership, the car has been looked after principally by Ferrari of Austin, with the CARFAX recording service on at least six occasions. Work there included spark plug replacement, headlight service, and a powertrain module check in November 2022 at 41,873 miles, followed a year later by a maintenance inspection, brake check, four new tires, and a power steering bleed at 42,005 miles. After the car changed hands again in 2024, Ferrari of Austin carried out a further maintenance inspection in February 2025 at 42,083 miles, replacing the battery, wipers, and steering rack and performing a four-wheel alignment. A recorded final service was completed that May by L & L Automotive of Dripping Springs at 42,106 miles, later leaving Texas for the first time in 25 years to join the New York-based consignor.

Consistently maintained and honestly presented, this is a 550 Maranello meant to be driven and enjoyed, and an accessible entry into front-engine V12 Ferrari ownership.
