Description

Designed and built at one of the most fascinating crossroads in Porsche history, the 993-generation 911 ranks among the marque's most collectible and accomplished, with the halo 911 Turbo its ultimate expression. As Porsche's final air-cooled 911, the late-1990s Turbo retained the familiar 3.6-liter flat-six from the previous Turbo while embracing the future with twin turbochargers, all-wheel drive, ABS, hollow-spoke wheels, and a six-speed manual transmission, technology that drew heavily from the legendary 959. The timing was extraordinary, with Porsche introducing the water-cooled 996 even as the 993 platform remained in production through 1998. With its flared arches and fixed whale-tail wing, the 911 Turbo wasn't just fast-it was supercar fast, officially reaching 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, though contemporary magazines managed closer to 3.9.

Completed at the Porsche factory on 12 September 1995, this 1996 911 Turbo, chassis number 375579 was built for the Canadian market in Guards Red over a Full Black leather interior. Its original service book and build sheet record the specification. Delivered new to Murray Dunlop through MLC Motor Cars of Vancouver in November 1995, it was optioned with heated sport seats, rear badge delete, and a front trunk-mounted CD autochanger. Additionally, the Porsche Exclusive Department added two further X-Code options, a leather-covered console and leather-covered storage tray.

According to its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, the 911 Turbo received regular servicing throughout its time in Canada before it was exported to the United States with approximately 34,000 miles, or 54,700 kilometers. Its new American owners remained devoted to the car with servicing at Park Place Porsche (now Porsche Bellevue) and Porsche Tacoma. In 2012, with approximately 85,000 miles, the Turbo was stolen. When it was recovered, it had lost its engine and other parts, yet upon its sale to Germany that year a silver lining emerged.

That car was sent to the Porsche experts at Freisinger Motorsport in Karlsruhe, where it received an extensive photo-documented rebuild. Most importantly, according to Freisinger's invoice the engine was replaced with an upgraded 3.6-liter twin-turbo built to WLS2 specification. Introduced for the 1998 model year, the Werksleistungssteigerung engine upgrade matched the output (450 PS and 585 Nm of torque) of not only the 911 Turbo S but also the GT2 Strasse! The experts at Freisinger went deeper, converting the car from North American specification to German home-market specification, along with fitting a new braking system, clutch, and tires. In addition, Freisinger applied a fresh coat of Guards Red to the front end due to stone chips.

Following the comprehensive and powerful makeover, the car has been owned since by two Germans in Attendorn and later in Dreieich. Under current ownership invoices on file reveal that the consignor has had the renewed 911 Turbo serviced at Porscheservice Peter Drux of Frankfurt in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022 with the most recent service on file recording the fitment of N-specification Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires and a TÜV inspection. At the time of consignment, the metric odometer reads 18,870 km since its refurbishment at Freisinger Motorsport, for a total of approximately 156,000 kilometers including its time in North America.

Accompanied by its original service book, invoices, digital build sheet, and clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this Canadian-market 993 Turbo presents an intriguing combination of factory specification, significant Freisinger Motorsport work, and the formidable performance of a WLS2-specification engine.
