Late in 1984, Mercedes-Benz introduced the W124 series, successor to the hugely successful W123 series. It proved a giant leap forward for the mid-size class. Less chrome, a lower drag coefficient and styling cues borrowed from the W201 series launched two years earlier, better known as the 190. Initially, buyers could choose from two four-cylinder and two six-cylinder petrol engines and a trio of diesels. Later came V8s with outputs up to 380 PS and six-cylinders with 24-valve technology. The W124 series stayed in production until 1997 (coupé and estate) and was in turn replaced, after well over 2,300,000 units, by the W210 series.

The 1993 300CE-24 Cabriolet we are offering is a late model from the second series, so the first 'Modellpflege'. This wonderfully charming car has covered a mere 64,000 km in its entire life, and in 2026 that is really rather special. We bought the car from an enthusiast in Germany. The classic colours make it very sought after, and the factory-fitted Getrag dog-leg five-speed gearbox makes it exceptional, because enquiries told us that only a few hundred cars were built in this configuration. A dog-leg five-speed behind the rousing M104 engine with 220 hp makes this cabriolet interesting even for the demanding BMW driver. You see, the car can be led along like a puppy on a loose lead, yet will also spin up to gloriously illegal revs. The manual box caps it all off, entirely to the wishes of the person working the wheel and pedals. Sounds rather 'BMW', does it not? Naturally, the car comes with both keys and a wealth of history, so you need not doubt the evidence of your investment.

This 300CE-24 Cabriolet is more than an ordinary car: it is a piece of history, a rare snapshot in time, lovingly preserved and cared for.
