Description
Chassis No. 113.042.10.002162
Engine No. 127.981.10.002021
This Swiss-delivery 230 SL numbers among the earliest examples produced, retaining the vertically mounted spare tire fitted to the first Pagodas assembled at Sindelfingen before Mercedes-Benz revised the trunk layout. Finished in White over a Blue interior with the desirable four-speed manual transmission and a Becker Europa radio, the car spent decades in the hands of a Swiss automotive journalist, who drove it regularly and entered it in numerous events. Its engine and mechanical systems were revised before a restoration was completed in 2013 and 2014 that included refinishing the bodywork and renewal of the interior trim.
The car passed to its next caretaker in 2015 and has since been entered in a number of events, including the Raid Basel-Paris. A major inspection followed in 2024, and the car passed its most recent Swiss veteran vehicle inspection in 2025, when it also received a full engine service, valve adjustment, lubrication, injection system cleaning, and ignition system overhaul. Most recently, in 2026, the interior was restored in Stuttgart by a Mercedes-Benz specialist, followed by a fresh oil change, with the Pagoda appearing that same year as the star of Swiss Classic World, Switzerland's largest classic car show, held annually in Lucerne. This early Swiss delivery Pagoda carries the charming styling of the early 1960s, its White over Blue color combination looking as effortlessly elegant today as it did when the car was new.
