Synonymous with the swinging '60's and the hit TV series, Inspector Morse, the Jaguar Mk. II saloon has been used as a vehicle to transport everyone from dignitaries and politicians to bank robbers and the criminal select. The Jaguar Mk. II combined elegant styling, impressive performance and luxurious accommodation in a package that remains highly desirable today. Introduced in 1959, the Mk. II represented a significant evolution of Jaguar's compact saloon range and quickly earned a reputation for its refined road manners and sporting character.
Registered in the Netherlands in 1990, this 1964 Jaguar Mk. II was shortly thereafter subjected to a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration, extensively documented with photographs. The images, included in the history file, clearly demonstrate the exceptional standard to which the car was restored, with every aspect of the vehicle carefully inspected and, where necessary, renewed. Bodywork, engine, drivetrain, upholstery, woodwork and brightwork have all received meticulous attention. The 2.4 litre engine was completely dismantled and overhauled, alongside the four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Following completion of the bodywork, the car received a bare metal respray in an elegant metallic blue, including the underside. The grey leather interior was also fully refurbished, complementing the exterior beautifully and retaining the sophisticated character of the original car. The restoration took almost nine years and is understood to have cost approximately £70,000. Despite being completed some time ago, the car has been carefully maintained ever since and remains in excellent condition. Our vendor purchased the Jaguar through Historics in 2019 and has kept it in a temperature-controlled garage, covering just 400 miles during his ownership. Presented in exceptional condition, this beautifully restored Mk. II remains a superb example of one of Jaguar's most iconic models, combining its timeless styling with the benefit of an extensive and thoroughly documented restoration.
