The Escort RS2000 was the last car to be introduced in Ford's 'Advanced Vehicle' range in June 1973. Its performance was almost comparable to the more complex RS1600, but with the reliability and ease of maintenance of the Mexico. The car used the same Type 49 bodyshell as the Mexico and RS1600, however, there was a new engine in use at Ford: the 2.0 litre overhead cam, 100bhp, 'Pinto' design, which seemed, on paper, ideal for the RS. Combining the compact, lightweight Escort bodyshell with Ford's lively 2.0 litre Pinto engine, the RS2000 variation offered an appealing blend of performance, practicality and motorsport-inspired styling, quickly establishing itself as one of the most desirable sporting Fords of its era.

Presented here in striking Olympic Blue, this 1974 example is quite simply immaculate, having formed part of a collection of highly prized and valuable Escorts for nearly a decade and maintained to an incredible standard. The engine bay and underside of the car are spotless and the paintwork is faultless. The car has been stored in a temperature-controlled garage and has benefitted from a comprehensive restoration by ASM Classics, renowned for their work on Ford Escorts. The car was completely stripped, then dipped and repainted, with no stone left unturned in returning it to its former glory. The result is potentially the best RS2000 we have ever offered at Historics.

Mk.
