Topas Gold by Rimowa

This gold-anodized, aluminium luggage set from Rimowa, the Cologne-based manufacturer, is a modern take on a classical theme. The exterior shell gives the luxurious cases a highly individual aura while, on the inside, there are carefully crafted details depending on the purpose of the piece: functional but elegant leather compartments in the briefcase, for example, or a practical cosmetic tray in the beauty case.

Eight different luggage items are available in the Topas Gold series, from the briefcase and beauty case to a cabin trolley and 104-litre multiwheel suitcase. The 35-litre cabin trolley is particularly practical, weighing just 3.8kg and ideally suited to air travel.

Despite being made from light aluminium, the Rimowa Topas Gold series is robust enough to carry a five-year warranty. It’s said that the idea for using aluminium came from a fire in the luggage and leather goods factory in Cologne in the 1930s, which destroyed almost everything except a few aluminium plates. This led to the production of the first aluminium suitcase for foreign travel, in 1937.

The Topas Gold range costs from 500 to 1,000 euros per item.
