The landmark victory by Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari at the 1972 Imola 200 transformed Ducati from a respected Italian manufacturer into a world-class performance marque. Conceived by legendary engineer Fabio Taglioni, the race-winning bevel-drive L-twin became the basis for the 750 Super Sport, a homologation special built in a single production run of just 401 examples for 1974. Closely mirroring the victorious Imola racers, the 750 SS featured desmodromic valve actuation, bevel-driven overhead camshafts, 40 mm Dell’Orto carburetors, triple disc brakes, lightweight Borrani alloy rims, and the distinctive blue-green frame that has become synonymous with one of the most coveted Ducatis ever produced.

Remaining in Japan for most of its life, this exceptional 750 SS is a fantastic example that received a meticulous engine rebuild by renowned Japanese bevel-drive specialist Hideki Fujikami of Collezione Giappone. The engine was rebuilt using correct internal components, with the crankshaft, connecting rods, rocker arms, and numerous other original pieces painstakingly restored.

The motorcycle’s side cover was personally signed by Fabio Taglioni, with photographs of the signing on file. This superb Super Sport represents the pinnacle of Ducati collecting, and few motorcycles better embody the marriage of racing pedigree, engineering brilliance, and timeless Italian design.
