Trade-in car. This 1968 Fiat Dino 2000 Coupé demands attention, patience, and probably a few evenings in the garage that run longer than originally planned—even though the scope of this adventure remains pleasantly manageable.

The Fiat Dino was born in the 1960s out of a remarkable collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari. Ferrari needed a production-based two-liter engine for Formula 2 and had to build sufficient numbers to satisfy homologation requirements. Fiat assisted with the production of the V6 and, in return, received a distinctive sports model powered by the same family of engines. The Spider came first, followed not long afterward by the Coupé.

While Pininfarina was responsible for the open-top Dino, the Coupé was designed by Bertone. Its lines are crisp and elegant, with a long nose, a spacious cabin, and ample room for its occupants. This is not a compact two-seater in which your jacket has to remain on your lap, but a genuine Gran Turismo designed for serious long-distance travel.

Beneath the hood lies the two-liter V6 with four overhead camshafts. In this specification, the engine was rated at approximately 160 horsepower and became renowned above all for the way it revs and for its distinctive sound.

This particular example was delivered new in 1968 and, according to the available history, has had just two owners. The second owner then kept the car for more than 45 years. The essential components are present, making this Dino an attractive and manageable starting point for restoration. Naturally, work will be required. That is part of the story.

Inside, you will find what may well be the most beautiful dashboard fitted to any Dino model. Wood trim, classic round instruments, and a layout that immediately makes it clear this was no ordinary Fiat. Even beneath a layer of dust, the design remains special.

The Fiat also sits on 14-inch Cromodora-style wheels, which suit the long lines of the Coupé perfectly. Not too large, not too modern, and exactly as you would hope to see on an Italian Gran Turismo from the 1960s.

A 1968 Fiat Dino 2000 Coupé with only two owners, more than 45 years in the care of its second owner, and an honest restoration project with an excellent foundation, a magnificent V6, and a dashboard you will probably keep admiring long before the engine is even running.
