Description

- One of just 589 DHC models
- Finished in stylish British Racing Green
- Powered by a 3.8-litre XK straight-six

This particular car is a 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 SE Drop Head Coupé, representing the final and most developed evolution of Jaguar’s XK series. Introduced as a more refined and usable successor to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 combined strong performance with improved comfort, better visibility and, importantly, four wheel disc brakes as standard, a major technical step at the time.
This example, chassis S838618BW, is a correct 3.8 SE Drop Head Coupé, a configuration that perfectly reflects the grand touring character Jaguar intended. The 3.8 litre engine was introduced in the final production years and is widely regarded as the most desirable standard engine for the XK150. In this SE specification, the car is fitted with the 3.8 litre DOHC straight six equipped with 2 SU HD6 carburetors, delivering approximately 220 horsepower. The engine is known for its strong torque and smooth, linear power delivery, making the car particularly pleasant and usable in real driving conditions. The sound is exactly what you expect from a classic Jaguar straight six: full, mechanical and refined without being intrusive.

With this level of performance, Jaguar equipped the XK150 with 12 inch Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels as standard. This was not only advanced for its time, but remains a key factor in how confidently these cars can still be driven today.

The Drop Head Coupé body style offers a clear advantage over the more basic roadster. It provides a higher level of comfort, proper weather protection and a more finished driving environment, while still retaining the open driving experience. This makes the car far more versatile and usable, especially on longer journeys.

This car is finished in an elegant British Racing Green over a light leather interior, a combination that suits the proportions and character of the XK150 exceptionally well. The SE specification includes desirable features such as wire-spoke wheels, a dual exhaust system and the Jaguar mascot on the bonnet, all of which enhance the appearance while remaining fully in line with period correctness. The automatic transmission further reinforces the grand touring nature of the car, offering a smooth and relaxed driving experience.

The car presents in very good condition and has clearly been maintained with care. Mechanically, it performs as it should, with a smooth running engine, stable road manners and a reassuring overall feel.
A correct and well configured XK150 3.8 SE Drop Head Coupé, offering the right balance between performance, comfort and usability. An honest and highly enjoyable example of one of Jaguar’s most important post war models.
